The Four Stages of Getting the Job You Want - Stage 4

We have reached the final stage - The job Offer!!

Here we look at what this means and what your next steps are:

Stage 4 - The Job offer! Congratulations, but check you have been offered what was discussed.

Every detail of your job offer has to be in a contract. For example, they may have discussed parking, flexible working, holidays already booked, more holiday schemes, child card support, and a review after xxx months. If the employer is genuine, make sure what they promise is all there. It’s too late to leave it for your first day of employment or indeed when you have handed in your notice on your current role. If your employer goes back on what they say, you are left so vulnerable.

The probation period is also so important. Know exactly what you have to fulfill to meet the targets set to convert to a permanent position. Sometimes employers will extend the probation period to save themselves from fulfilling all of the benefits they said they would offer to you and often during probation the notice period is only 1 week. If your probation period is extended get written confirmation of exactly what you need to do to complete your probationary period successfully and record evidence to say you have completed this. However, alarm bells must ring if your probation is extended so be careful and I would suggest, looking for a new role asap.

References let you down? Remember you have the right to view anything written about you – find out and address matters that are not true as you see it.

Happy with the offer: Then accept.

Not happy: Reject and walk away, but in a courteous manner; you never know when you will meet the same people again!
